The End of Pennsylvania House as a Domestic Manufacturer

Pennsylvania House furniture company was sold to Universal Furniture in 2005. After that point, the new owners used the name on different furniture. However, nearly everything from 2005 onwards came from overseas.

Unfortunately, the quality of vintage Pennsylvania House furniture suffered greatly. After all, American craftspeople used age-old techniques to craft the fine pieces of Pennsylvania House in years past. Additionally, they used solid hardwoods like cherry.

Obviously, to cut on costs, they changed their techniques. Instead of dowels and dovetailed joints, modern Pennsylvania House used screws.

Additionally, the new overseas manufacturing plants used pressed wood or quick growing woods. Sadly, a lot of the quality suffered.

So, we believe that the best furniture by the brand was made before 2005. However, you may disagree. Please feel free to leave us a comment below and let us know!
