Where is Tell City Furniture Made?
Tell City Furniture was made in Tell City, Indiana. Nearly all of Tell City’s fine furniture featured solid maple, cherry and oak domestic woods. In fact, the company had its own saw mill, utilizing a river near the factory floor. If the company used mahogany, most came from South America and Honduras.
The workshops of Tell City grew over time. At the very start in 1865, Tell City Company had just a small frame style building. However, by 1900, the business had expanded to include several plants and factory buildings.
However, interestingly, the company focused primarily on chairs. And, surprisingly, many men in the early factory days made the frames in the factories during the day. Then, they would take the chair frames home and their wives would weave the cane seats! Then the company would pick them up from their front porches. This factory/home situation continued until the 1930s, when this type of work was banned.

Tell City Furniture Markings
Tell City Furniture Company used a few different markings to stamp their products. Of course, in the later years of the company’s lifetime, you will see brass tags identifying the Collection Name. For instance, you will see the name, like “Tidewater Cherry Collection.”
In the older vintage Tell City pieces, however, you most likely will see a burned in logo. Additionally, on pieces made before 1980, the company did not include the collection name.
